Since 2008, Australia has implemented eVisitor visas for citizens of the European Union and Schengen Area countries. eVisitor visas are electronic travel authorizations that can be obtained online for travel or business purposes, making the whole process of visa application faster and simpler by removing the need to go to embassies or consulates on appointments.
The Australian visa for Dutch citizens should be obtained prior to departure. It is advisable that travellers apply for this type of visa at least 2 weeks before the intended trip to avoid any complications. The Australian eVisitor visa permits multiple entries and is valid for 1 year starting from the date of issue, granting holders stays of 90 consecutive days at a time starting from the date of entry.
The application form for an Australian online visa for Dutch citizens can be filled in online. Applicants are required to fill in basic personal and passport information. Usually, the eVisitor visa is granted within 24 hours and will be electronically linked to the traveller’s passport number, eliminating the need for passport stamps upon approval.
Do Dutch citizens need a visa for Australia?
Since their launch, Dutch citizens, like the citizens of the other 35 European countries, must apply for an Australian eVisitor visa before entry in order to be able to enjoy the country’s culture, beaches, and outdoor lifestyle.
Once obtained, the Australian eVisitor for Dutch tourists allows travellers to enjoy holidays or cruises, visit family and friends, take educational courses or training for a maximum period of 3 months, engage in unpaid volunteer work, undertake business visits as well as business conferences and meetings within Australia.
In the case of families travelling together, all members must apply separately for an Australian eVisitor visa at least 2 weeks before departure. However, only children that are on the parent’s passport can travel on the parent’s visa.
If travellers wish to extend their stay in Australia, they must apply for a new online visa while outside Australia at least two weeks before their current visa expires. Another way to extend the stay is by applying for the “application for further stay as a visitor” while in Australia by going to the Australian Office of Home Affairs two weeks prior to the current visa expiry date. Proof of sufficient funds and health insurance to support this extended stay must be attached to the application.
Electronic visas are not transferrable between passports, in case a new passport must be attained due to loss or renewal.
What documents do Dutch Citizens need for an Australian visa?
The Australian Government requires all travellers to Australia to fulfil health and personal requirements in order to be granted any type of visa.
Australian visa requirements for Dutch citizens are comprised of the following:
- The traveller’s passport, which must be valid for at least 3 months after arrival in Australia
- A working email address
- Proof of sufficient funds
- Health clearance documents, especially tuberculosis
- Criminal conviction record, no sentence or sentences that total 12 months or over (whether served or not served yet)
- Health insurance is recommended
- Proof of no medical services required while in Australia
In some cases, proof of good conduct issued by an employer may be required.
Prior to applying for the Australian visa, citizens from the Netherlands may be required to undergo a few medical examinations in order to eliminate any health risk factors to Australian citizens and permanent residents. This may also be necessary to prove that no costly or short-in-supply medical and community services will be required by visa holders while in Australia, risking or reducing access to those services for Australian citizens and permanent residents.
All travellers must notify the Australian Government if they:
- Change phone number, address, email address, passport
- Give birth to a child
- Change their relationship status
