Since 2008, Australia has implemented eVisitor visas for citizens of the European Union and Schengen Area countries. eVisitor visas are electronic visas that can be obtained online for travel or business purposes, making the whole process of visa application faster and simpler by removing the need to go to embassies or consulates on appointments.
The Australian visa for Dutch citizens should be obtained prior to departure. It is advisable that travelers apply for this type of visa at least 2 weeks before the intended trip to avoid any complications. The Australian eVisitor visa permits multiple entries and is valid for 1 year starting from the date of issue, granting holders stays of 90 consecutive days at a time starting from the date of entry.
The application form for the Australian eVisitor for Dutch citizens can be filled in online. Applicants are required to fill in basic personal and passport information. Usually, the eVisitor visa is granted within 24 hours and will be electronically linked to the traveler’s passport number, eliminating the need for passport stamps upon approval.
Do Dutch Citizens Need a Visa for Australia?
Since its launch in 2008, Dutch citizens, similar to citizens of the other 35 European countries, must apply for an Australian eVisitor visa before entry in order to be able to enjoy the country’s culture, beaches, and outdoor lifestyle.
Once obtained, the Australian eVisitor for the Dutch allows travelers to enjoy holidays or cruises, visits to family or friends, educational courses or training for a maximum period of 3 months, engaging in unpaid volunteer work, business visits as well as business conferences and meetings within Australia.
In the case of families traveling together, all family members must apply separately for an Australian eVisitor visa at least 2 weeks before departure. However, only children that are on the parent’s passport can travel on the parent’s visa.
If travelers wish to extend their stay in Australia, they must apply for a new eVisitor visa while outside Australia at least two weeks before the current visa expires. Another way to extend the stay is by applying for the “application for further stay as a visitor” while in Australia by going to the Australian Office of Home Affairs two weeks prior to the current visa expiry date. Proof of sufficient funds and health insurance to support this extended stay must be attached to the application.
Electronic visas are not transferrable between passports, in case a new passport must be attained due to loss or renewal.
