Hungarian nationals who intend to visit Australia for tourism or business purposes are required to apply for a visa prior to their travel. Hungary is among 35 European countries eligible to apply for an online Australia eVisitor, designed to simplify the visa application process.
There are several Australian visa requirements for Hungarian citizens that need to be met before applying for an eVisitor. Hungarian passport holders need to be in possession of the following items:
- Passport valid for at least 3 months after entering Australia
- Active email address that will be used for all correspondence on visa-related issues, including confirmation, a request for further information, and visa approval
- Valid credit or debit card for online visa fee payment
If the passport has expired or will expire before the planned return trip from Australia, a new passport needs to be obtained before applying for an Australia visa for Hungarian citizens.
Some additional requirements for obtaining an eVisitor for Australia pertain to the individual’s criminal past and health. The applicant must:
- Not have a criminal record with serious offenses or convictions that entail a prison sentence of 12 months or more
- Be in good health and free of any conditions that would require costly care and prevent Australian citizens from receiving the same treatment
Hungarian nationals may be asked to go through a medical examination to prove that they are fit to travel to Australia and do not pose a risk or burden to the Australian community.
Failing to meet any of these conditions may result in denial of an Australian visa for Hungarian citizens.
Do Hungarian citizens need a visa for Australia?
Citizens of all countries, with the exception of New Zealand, need to obtain a visa in order to enter Australia. The required visa type depends on the country of origin and the purpose of travel. Hungary is among the countries that have a reciprocal agreement with Australia, allowing its nationals to apply for an eVisitor visa.
The Australia eVisitor is valid for multiple entries within a period of one year, where each visit is limited to 3 consecutive months. Hungarian citizens are allowed to visit Australia for sightseeing, paying a visit to family members, participating in unpaid voluntary work, or attending conferences and short educational courses.
Hungarian travellers who wish to extend their stay must apply for a new eVisitor outside of Australia at least 2 weeks before the current visa expiration date. For purposes that require longer stays, such as paid work or study, the Australian Home Office offers several other types of visas.
