With over 8 million international visitors travelling to Australia each year, the Oceanic country has expanded its travel authorisations by creating the eTA and the Australian eVisitor visas in 2008.
There are several eligible countries for entering Australia with an electronic visa, and Lithuania is one of these nations. Specifically, Lithuanians are allowed to apply for the eVisitor visa to enter Australia, also known as subclass 651.
Do Lithuanian Citizens Need a Visa for Australia?
Yes, all Lithuanian travellers need a visa to enter Australia. It is an indispensable requisite to be in possession of a relevant visa and a valid passport before arriving in Australia.
It is advised to fill in and send the online application form at least 2 weeks before departure. In some cases, it is also recommended to apply for the Australia visa before buying flights and accommodation, just in case the electronic visa is rejected.
An online electronic visa allows Lithuanian travellers to remain for up to 3 months in Australia and it is a multiple-entrance document.
If Lithuanian citizens arrive in Australia on a cruise, they are still allowed to use an eVisitor visa. It does not matter whether the port of entry is an airport or a port.
Types of Visas to Australia for Lithuanian Passports
Due to the increase in tourism, the island government created different types of Australian visas:
- Australian eTA (subclass 601): It is reserved for Brunei, Canada, Hong Kong, Singapore, Japan, Malaysia, and South Korea
- eVisitor (subclass 651): This electronic visa is designed for European Union countries, as well as Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland, and Vatican City
- Visitor visa (subclass 600): This visa is reserved for the rest of the world
- Transit visa (subclass 771): It allows transit passengers to visit Australia for up to 72 hours
If Lithuanians are in possession of an electronic visa to Australia for a year, but they arrive in Australia because for transit during this period, then the 72-hours transit visa is not required. If travellers do not have a visa, then they need to require the transit visa, also known as subclass 771.
It is also important to know that there is an Australian student visa available for Lithuanians when the main purpose of the trip is completing education in Australia. However, this visa must be requested and processed through an embassy or consulate.
Those travellers from Lithuania who want to work in Australia will need different working visas, depending on the type of work they want to develop.
If the purpose of the trip to Australia is leisure and tourism, then Lithuanians must consider the Australia eVisitor option.
Main features of the Australia eVisitor visa for Lithuania
The eVisitor visa permits Lithuanian citizens to stay up to 90 consecutive days in Australia for each trip, with multiple entries during a year. It is reserved for holidays or business affairs. The eVisitor visa expires after 12 months since the date of the issue or after the expiration of the applicant’s passport, whichever occurs first.
Lithuanian nationals must note that an eVisitor visa is not the same as an ETA visa. The latter applies to selected countries outside the EU, such as Canada, Malaysia, Japan, and Brunei.

The online application form to obtain an Australia eVisitor visa is simple, fast, and secure.

In case no information has arrived, applicants are advised to check the spam box. All requests are reviewed by the Australian government.
The electronic visa to Australia must be printed and it is required by the immigration controllers when arriving in Australia together with the original Lithuanian passport.
Documents Lithuanians Need to Submit for an Australia eVisitor
Lithuanians are required to give personal information and the passport’s biographical data as part of the application. It is important to give the correct required information to meet the Australia visa entry requirements.
Lacking information and istakes can cause the visa to be rejected by authorities.
Sometimes further supporting documents such as health and police reports are required.
Health reports are requested for checking that visitors are not going to become a danger for the Australian public health, as well as to make sure that they do not incur expensive medical treatments. Lithuanian applicants may present a health examination assessed by a Medical Officer of the Commonwealth.
Regarding the character or criminal reports, if visitors from Lithuania have serious criminal convictions, the eVisitor visa for Australia may be rejected and the Lithuanian applicant would have to process the visa directly with an Australian embassy.
In that sense, the Australian government can ask for some extra documents such:
- A police certificate
- A letter from an employer verifying good conduct
- A completed character statutory declaration
Furthermore, travellers from Lithuania are required to sign that they have no intention to harass, intimidate, or stalk another person in Australia, as well as to suppose a danger for the Australian community.
