Do Norwegian passport holders need a visa for Australia?
The application for the Australian visa for Norwegian citizens is very simple and only takes a few minutes to complete. Applicants can fill out the online application from the comfort of their home or office and receive the eVisitor visa via email once their application has been approved. It can also be obtained far in advance of the applicant’s intended travel to the country.
The eVisitor visa allows for a maximum stay of 90 consecutive days or 3 months with each entry and is valid for 12 months in total. It allows travelers multiple entries into Australia as long as the traveler has not exhausted their maximum length of stay in the country.
Documents required for Norwegian citizens for an Australian visa
Norwegian citizens are eligible to apply for an Australian eVisitor visa. However, they must ensure that they meet certain health and character requirements set by the Australian Home Office governing eVisitor visa applications.
These state that the travler:
- Should be free of any medical conditions, diseases or illnesses that may pose a public health risk to the Australian population
- Must not need substantial healthcare of community services that deprive Australian citizens and permanent residents of the same
- Must not incur substantial healthcare or community service costs whilst in Australia
- Must not intend to harass, stalk or intimidate any member of the Australian community
- Must not be coming to sow discord between members of the Australian community
- Must not have a substantial criminal record
- Must not pose any danger to the Australian public
Travelers suffering from certain health conditions may be required to sign an Australian Health Undertaking to monitor their disease or condition with an Australian doctor while they are visiting the country.
In some cases, travelers may also be required to submit official documents verifying their good character. These official documents can be in the form of letters from the traveler’s place of employment, police clearance certificates obtained from the local police station, etc.
In addition to the above, Norwegian applicants will also need to have a valid passport, a valid email address and valid debit/credit card information in order to successfully apply for an eVisitor visa to Australia.
Australia visa application form for citizens of Norway
Once the applicant has made sure they have all the necessary documents needed to apply for the Australian eVisitor visa from Norway, they can then begin the application process.
The application form will ask applicants to list some personal and passport details. Applicants will be required to provide a valid email address where a copy of the eVisitor visa will be sent once the application has been approved. Applicants will also need to provide valid credit or debit card information to complete the process and pay for the visa.
Travelers must ensure that they fill out the online application form as accurately as possible, making sure that the information they provide on the online application form matches that which appears on their travel documents. Applicants should make sure not to provide any invalid information on the form as that may lead to processing delays or a posible rejection.
Once the applicant has ascertained that they meet all the necessary requirements and submitted the online eVisitor visa application, applicants can then expect to receive their eVisitor visa via email within 3 business days. If the applicant has been approved for an Australian eVisitor visa for citizens of Norway, his/her visa will be sent to the email address they provided along with their eVisitor visa application.
As the eVisitor for Norwegians is electronically linked to the same passport used to complete the online form,. it is necessary to travel to Australia using the same passport.
Travelers are also advised to print a paper copy or carry a copy of the eVisitor on their mobile device to present alongside their passport if requested by an officer of the Australian Border Force upon arrival at a port of entry.
Travelers must note that upon arrival they will be asked to complete an Incoming Passenger Card. This card has to be filled out by all non-Australian travelers arriving at an Australian airport. This card can be used to make customs and quarantine declarations and declarations of cash above a certain amount that the traveler may be bringing in.
Most importantly, the card will ask the travelers to list the address at which they will be staying while in Australia and any contacts they may have in the country.
The Australian eVisitor visa cannot be used to engage in paid work while visiting the country on this visa. However, exceptions can be made strictly for unpaid volunteer work.
Australian immigration law requires travelers to inform the Australian Home Office immediately in the event that their contact information such as email address or phone number change. Travelers are also advised to plan their trip so that they depart from Australia a few days before their eVisitor visa expires in order to avoid any issues with overstaying their visa.
